Boston MA....ca. 1939 -1944.....6" dial, 7 1/2" case weighs 8 lbs....8 day movement, striking the ships bells sequence on the half hours....rack and snail ships bell strike mechanism on a coiled gong which is screwed to the metal backboard inside the case (picture 9)....Missing the Original Dial. Replaced with a heavy cardboard dial. Original Dial was painted with Radium Paint, which is a radiological hazard, emitting gamma rays that can penetrate a glass dial and into human tissue. No Key....Working order. Keeps good time and chimes correctly

    6" dial, 7 1/2" case, Weighs 8 lbs
    8 day movement, striking the ships bells sequence on the half hours

    Missing the Original Dial. Replaced with a heavy cardboard dial.
    Original Dial was painted with Radium Paint, which is a radiological hazard, emitting gamma rays that can penetrate a glass dial and into human tissue.  Widely used for 40 yrs on the faces of watches, compasses and aircraft instruments so they could be read in the dark. During the 1920s and 1930s the harmful effects of this paint became increasingly clear.
