    Description

WW II era Royal Navy deck watch by Tissot.
This really nice 15 jewel WW II era deck watch was made for the Royal Navy by the prestigious Swiss watch making firm founded by, Edmond Matthey-Tissot. The initials ‘EMT” are clearly marked at the 12 O’clock position on the porcelain dial.
This deckwatch is also marked on the back with both the British broad arrow and Hydrographic Service “H.S.3” designation, signifying that the watch has been tested and adjusted in at least two positions for isochronism error.
Prior to GPS, these highly accurate watches were used by Captains and Navigators to help calculate their ship’s longitudinal position on the open ocean. During the Battle of the Atlantic, the lives of countless soldiers, sailors, and marines depended in part on the accuracy and reliability of these high-quality watches.
The white porcelain enamel dial of this watch is marked “EMT 1473” and is in excellent condition. The blued hour and minute hands, as well as the sweep second hand are all original and in excellent condition. The glass covering the porcelain face is clear and there is a small British Arrow just above the 6 O’clock position on the face.
The case back is marked with the distinctive “HS” broad arrow “3” and the Snap on back is bright, however, some commensurate age and “usage” scuff marks visible.
There are no visible marks on the inner workings. This is really a beautiful example of high-quality watch making from an important era of world history.
It runs great and keeps really good time.
