Beautiful.......More than copper hints, this grate was originally copper plated and then painted black (not bitumen for japanned finish, rather just black enamel). Not really a good idea as the paint is flammable where as the original copper finish is not. At least the paint preserved the copper finish.
Vintage catalog (Canadian) cut shows this exact same design (26” not 20” as this listing) grate in a fireplace mantel combination from the early 1900's. If used for wall décor, use 50# capacity mounting hardware.
12 5/8 " x 20". All dimensions approximate. Rust on rear surface with some black paint residual after cleaning.
This item was a fireplace cover, and a beautiful one at that. Very unique and ornate. Aged patina with copper plating showing through. Note the detail and width of the grate. Not found on-line anymore (that are affordable anyway). Very fancy cast iron details. Twin torches (vertical - one each side).
Pieces like this can be re-purposed to mantle decorations, wall décor or framed to accentuate the unique and ornate design. Cast iron to the best of my knowledge. Shipped to the continental USA via USPS. Very heavy item. Knobs are stainless steel (non-magnetic) replacements and unfinished shipped loose with attachment hardware. Your choice to use them or not.
