    NECKERCHIEF SLIDE
Neckerchief Slides or “woggles” as they are sometimes called, have been an important component of the Scout uniform since 1917 and were a part of Baden-Powell’s original design.
A woggle is a device to fasten the neckerchief, or scarf, worn as part of the Scout or Girl Guides uniform, originated by a Scout in the 1920s. Early Scouts tied a knot in their neckerchief (scarf) to fasten it around the neck. In the United States, experiments were made with rings made from bone, rope or wood to secure the neckerchief. The earliest known reference to a woggle is the June 1923 edition of The Scout. The term was quickly applied to other designs of fastener, of many shapes and sizes, and is today used around the world.
Since the early days of the Boy Scouts of America, Neckerchiefs have been used. They were introduced as part of the uniform as identification, as well as the ability to use them for a bandage for First Aid needs. The neckerchief slide has become a way for a Scout to personalize his uniform by using all kinds of decorative slides. Magnus, Neal and Torchy slides became very popular over the years.

    SLIDE ONLY
There have been American Scouts overseas since almost the inception of the movement, often for similar reasons as the present day. Within the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), these expatriate Scouts are now served by two overseas Councils and the Direct Service program. Within the Girl Scouts of the USA, the USAGSO serves such a purpose.
The Far East Council, headquartered in Okinawa, Japan, was created in 1953 to make the Scouting program available to United States citizens and their dependents living in several nations in the western Pacific. It is organized similar to other BSA local Councils, and follows the Status of Forces Agreements with their host nations and the U.S. military. Far East Council is a part of the Western Region, BSA. Members are the children of international businessmen and women, American expat community, diplomatic corps officials, and U.S. military personnel. Far East Council has four districts that serve Cub Scout packs, Scouts BSA troops, and Venturing crews in five countries.

This collection belonged to a life-long Scouter who passed away in 2000. He earned his Eagle award about the age of 17, which would make it around 1959 (ish). He spent his life devoted to Scouting serving as Scoutmaster and at Boy Scout summer camps for over 15 years in positions from counselor to eventually camp director.
He was a ten year member and Vice President of the local Volunteer Fire Co., ten year member of the area Hazardous Materials Response Team and the town Tax Payers Association and was an Eagle Scout with Gold & Silver Palms, one of the highest ranks in Scouting.
A bronze palm represents five additional merit badges, a gold palm 10, and a silver palm 15. 1 gold palm and 1 silver palm = 46 total merit badges (21 required + 25 additional)
I cannot divulge his identity because I don't have the family's permission, nor sufficient background information on him.
