Description
The beautiful blue of this guilloche enameled etui is striking! Floral accents depict roses and leaves. "Sterling" and "Germany" are marked on the bottom of the case and on each of the three tools. On the scissors is "EBOS," but I can find nothing about that online. If you know what it is, please inform me. It is in good to very good condition. The silver is tarnished, of course. The larger, lower portion has one enamel loss which I photographed and the tools have no enamel loss. The cap however suffered more wear. There are 3 small losses along its bottom rim. There is one slightly larger loss to the upper rim. In about the middle of the cap there is one round loss to the enamel. These are photographed. Please don't mistake rose leaves for losses: to my eye, they are similar. Except for the middle areas, these are only noticeable on close examination. I have taken the most unforgiving photos possible! The term guilloche is French, dating back to the 1770s, and is often said to be named after the French engineer Guillot, who invented a tool, or turning machine, to achieve precise, intricate and repetitive patterns in the enamel. The mechanical technique improved on designs achieved by hand and allowed greater delicacy. Shipping includes insurance.
